Even though there are quite a few gamers out there that are currently enjoying EA’s Battlefront, this is not the game that diehard Star Wars fans have been waiting for. The successor to Battlefront 2, namely Battlefront 3, was developed by a company named Free Radical Design, which eventually cancelled it back in 2008. Shortly afterwards, a gameplay video surfaced online, but this only added to the fans’ disappointment as they knew that they would never be able to actually play it. However, it is refreshing to see that some fans have not given up completely on Battlefront 3, and that they are actively trying to bring the game back to life.
A Russia-based group of Star Wars fans named Frontwire Studios has been working on a project named “Galaxy in Turmoil,” which aims to resurrect Battlefront 3. Even though we don’t know too much about the project so far, it’s a strong possibility that it includes maps based on Tatooine and Hoth, and it definitely supports vehicle-based combat. The team members behind the project have stated that they will not charge anything for the game if it will ever be completed, but that’s a big “IF” considering that it’s extremely likely Disney might get involved with a cease and desist letter. We’ll just have to wait and see.
