Final Thoughts

Price

The Gamemax Polaris RGB Tempered Glass Mid-Tower Chassis is available from most major retailers. We found it at Amazon for just £73.99, which is superb value for money for a chassis that looks this cool. It is cheaper than most similar specification chassis, but there were a few small sacrifices made to make that possible.

Overview

There’s no shortage of affordable tempered glass and RGB lit chassis right now, and Gamemax are a big part of that, having a wide range of them on offer already. As I said, some small sacrifices are present to make the price more appealing, which is great for those on a tighter budget.

The expansion slot covers are those nasty snap off metal ones that can’t be reinstalled. They’re hardly a deal breaker, but I’m certainly not a fan of them. Also, the cable routing space is pretty tight and could be improved, as could the placement of the cable routing cutouts. There’s a cheap mesh filter on the PSU intake too, and a slide out one would be better. Of course, it’ll get the job done, and it’s better than no filter! Is that enough to put you off buying one? Unlikely, but they’re still worth mentioning.

Cooling

The radiator support is great on paper, with a 360mm fitting in the front. However, it means removing the stock fans and the glass to put it in, and it’s a bit of an afterthought more than anything. This chassis is best left for air cooling in my honest opinion. Four pre-installed fans in one heck of a nice bonus. Buying them separately wouldn’t be cheap, so I’m very happy to see so much airflow and lighting included.

Tempered Glass

It’s certainly the big trend over the last year, and I can’t recall the last time I saw a plastic side panel window. It’s one of the best things to happen to the chassis market and can make almost any chassis look great. Without glass, this would be any other cheap chassis. However, with the glass, you can show off your hardware, and enjoy seeing it bathed in the light from those lovely fans.

Should I Buy One

For a mid-budget gaming system, the Polaris will certainly fit the bill. It’ll hold a few hard drives, the cable routing looks neat and tidy and there are dust filters where you would need them. Add to that the lighting, the PSU shroud, the two glass panels and the reasonable price tag, and you’re onto a winner.

Pros

  • Competitive price
  • Stylish aesthetics
  • Two glass panels
  • Four RGB fans pre-installed
  • Fan hub pre-installed
  • PSU shroud
  • Supports 360mm radiator (with a bit of effort)

Cons

  • Cable routing space is quite tight
  • Snap off expansion slot covers

Neutral

  • Slide out dust filter on PSU would be preferred
