Gamer Storm Captain 240 AIO CPU Cooler Review

Final Thoughts

Price

Finding one of these coolers in the UK doesn’t seem to be very easy so it is a little harder to give a RRP, however in the US it’s priced at around $110 so we would expect it to be one of the cheaper coolers in the UK. With an average performance and great aesthetics it certainly does seem very good value for the money.

Overview

The Gamer Storm Captain 240 really is one of the most unusual coolers that I have seen, the pulsating glow and the steam punk design puts it firmly on my favourites list in terms of aesthetics. The visible coolant really adds something special also and with it complimenting the Deepcool Steam Castle chassis so well, we can easily see where the inspiration came from. The pump is quiet as are the fans, which again, looks great and with the addition of the rubber coating to them, it make for a really nice user experience overall.

The performance could be better for this product but when it matters the most, the cooler works to a good standard. Even when overclocked the fans weren’t running at full speed so there is still some room before it starts to bottleneck. It is a bit of a shame that it doesn’t fair as well as some other AIOs as it would be nice to see these in more homes.

If you are looking for something that is just for performance, then perhaps this isn’t the cooler for you, if however, you want something that performs to a good standard and look unique whilst it does it, then this is certainly something to keep an eye on. I personally would sacrifice some of the performance for the great looks that this cooler has, but I know not everyone would.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Great aesthetics
  • Very simple to install
  • Unique visible coolant and red pulsating glow
  • Quiet

Cons

  • Doesn’t quite perform as well as some other AIOs, especially at stock

“The Gamer Storm Captain 240 from Deepcool is truly a work of steampunk art. It compliments the Steam Castle cases perfectly and with the design features such as the pulsating glow and the visible fluid it really does stand out from the crowd. If you want a cooler that is unique, clean and a talking point in your computer, I would certainly look out for this.”
