GamerStorm Lucifer CPU Cooler Review

Final Thoughts

Price

I can hardly believe this part myself, but the Lucifer will set you back just £35 / $40, although it’s not currently available at many global retailers, expect it to become more available in the next few weeks. For that kind of money this is incredible value for money given its overall performance.

Conclusion

This cooler is easily one of my favourites so far, there is a lot to love about the Deepcool GamerStorm Lucifer and only a few minor issues that in my mind are more than excusable given the overall performance and price tag. As far as issues go, they’re nothing that are not easily resolved, low ram clearance can be resolved by mounting the fan on the other side of the tower, or by just using normal / low profile ram. The first PCI bay may have a conflict, but that only depends on your motherboards configuration, so simply use a different motherboard or of course a different cooler, although I suspect this issue will only arise for a small number of users given most motherboards use the 2nd expansion slot for the first GPU. Finally it’s quite a tall tower cooler, so many mATX chassis and some ATX chassis may not have enough room for it.

The minor issues are easily avoided with a little forward planning and product research, but if you’re looking to cool a high performance and overclocked CPU on a tighter budget, then you’re really not going to find anything much better for this kind of money. The Zalman 120mm water cooler was the nearest rival on our graphs and it costs 2.5x more than the Lucifer, while also being a fair bit louder under full load.

Thermal and acoustic performance were far better than we expected, and we think the Lucifer is going to be a very popular choice for system builders throughout 2014. A low price tag and great design will also help boost the popularity of the Lucifer and while I agree the green fan might not be to everyone’s taste, there is nothing stopping you from running it passively, or of course with any after-market fans of your choosing.

Pros

  • Great design
  • High quality 140mm fan included
  • Near silent performance at all times
  • Commendable thermal performance under both stock and overclocked conditions
  • Incredible value for money

Cons

  • Large tower can cause some hardware conflicts
  • Installation process was tricky

“This is one of the best coolers I’ve ever tested, sure it isn’t perfect in the grand scheme of things, but its performance, style and price tag go a long way to making the Lucifer one of the best value for money coolers on the market today.”
