Education and gaming experts are teaming up to highlight the integrity and the potential of games that do more than just entertain in a new website pulling together examples of games with purpose.
Preloaded has created Games with Purpose with the backing of Tate, Wellcome, Norwich University, Science Museum and Tiga. Launching on 19 June, the not-for-profit site, will pull together a diverse range of games aimed at engaging a broad audience by bringing together the best learning, serious, social impact and meaningful games.
The site will also provide a platform to drive greater awareness of exemplary games among mainstream audiences, as well as providing exposure for the high calibre of work being carried out by developers and publishers.
Games featured at launch will include Dragonbox, the multi-level puzzler getting teens doing algebra, Cart Life, a challenging ‘street vendor’ management sim, and Little Digits, an innovative app using iPad’s multi-touch function to get pre-schoolers counting with their finger.
Submissions are now open here. The criteria to be included on the site is simple: fun, high quality products that succeed in their objectives.
Paul Canty, CEO of Preloaded says: “We know games are brilliant at education, communication and engendering social change. They can do so much more than just entertain. Games with Purpose will bring the best-in-class examples into the spotlight – the ones with strong game integrity that go beyond the ordinary to create something truly purposeful, meaningful and extraordinary.”
Sharna Jackson from the Tate says: “Tate Kids has been developed around games and toys, and the power play has to encourage learning and engage audiences. As platforms develop and games become ever more mainstream in formal education, sites like Games with Purpose will be crucial in discovering the best examples out there. I’m proud to support the initiative and wish it great success.”
Thank you Games With Purpose for providing us with this information.
