Early this year, rumours began to abound that the iconic UK TV show ‘GamesMaster’ was in talks for a potential comeback. Something that later seems to be confirmed further when a ‘contestant application’ advert leaked online. All we were seemingly waiting for was confirmation and following an official announcement by Channel 4, we have it! – Yes GamesMaster is coming back and will start broadcasting again before the end of this year!
Initially making its debut on YouTube, Channel 4 (under their proxy E4) has confirmed that GamesMaster is back and will look to combine celebrities, professional gamers, and skilled enthusiasts to all compete for the highly coveted Golden Joystick.
“The series will see celebrities, gaming stars and super fans all take part in challenges, races and epic fights. Through virtual battles across a range of games, the competitors will try everything in their power to claim a legendary Golden Joystick Trophy. But whilst they play, they’ll be watched over by the all-knowing GamesMaster, famously portrayed in the original by Sir Patrick Moore.”
In announcing the news, it appears that funding has largely been acquired in a sponsorship deal with Facebook. This will see their Oculus Quest 2 VR headset likely both used and touted pretty regularly throughout the show. Let’s just hope that this ‘reboot’ does retain the original GamesMaster spirit and doesn’t just simply become an extended advertisement for the Oculus though.
While no official applications for the show have yet been opened, if you want to learn more about this comeback, you can check out the official announcement Blog Post via the link here!
