GameStick launches Kickstarter campaign to compete with OUYA Console

A new campaign has recently come to light from Kickstarter for other inventors to follow in the footsteps of the OUYA console. As part of this campaign, GameStick has created a rival console with a similar spec list.. Both consoles are powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS giving a similar user interface. The team has more than 250 developers to being new and existing games to the platform.

It wasn’t surprising to see a product almost similar to OUYA’s console after looking at its successful Kickstarter project and number of units being shipped to developers pretty quickly.

The main difference between them is the form factor; GameStick is a smaller console that eliminates the need for HDMI cables, by connecting directly to the output source and then connecting the controllers via Bluetooth, supporting up to four controllers, as indicated by Techspot.

Gamestick’s console is powered by a dual-core Cortex A9 1.5 GHz processor, a dual core Mali 400 400MHz GPU, 1GB memory, 8GB onboard storage, Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 b/g/n.

Gamestick said that that they could take this into production later this year if they can raise the $100,000 required, with a guarantee to sell these at $79 by April 2013. Looks like that should be possible now as it now has 1,093 backers have come forward with a combined pledge of $102,917 with 28 more days to go.
