I’m sure by now you’ve heard internet sensation Gangnam Style by South Korean k-pop star, Psy. Well, his megahit “Gangnam Style” has now become the most-watched YouTube video of all time, with over (at the time of writing) 823 million views.
Eight hundred and twenty three million views.
I had to bold that, I’m sorry – just for effect. Gangnam Style is known throughout the world, spawning spoof videos, Psy appearing on Ellen (with a very weird Britney Spears in her usual trance trying to copy his dance) and has taken the title from the weirdly-dressed-when-meeting-the-Canadian-PM, Justin Bieber and his song “Baby”.
Last month, Psy’s Gangnam Style became the first Korean song to top the UK pop chart – meaning it is quite the phenomenon. Psy was awarded one of South Korea’s highest cultural honors, the Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit – in thanks to his global success. The song kicks ass, the clip kicks ass, and so does Psy – I’d love to shake hands with the man one day.
