GDDR7 Will Only Be Used In The Top 3 NVIDIA ‘Blackwell’ Generation GPUs

With the recent official reveal of the GDDR7 memory standard cementing the idea of near future GPU specifications, rumours are starting to flow about what to expect from NVIDIA’s Blackwell RTX 50 series GPUs, specifically in regards to its memory which may not cover the full suite of cards from this generation.

GDDR7 In Top RTX 50 Series GPUs

Via TweakTown, XpeaGPU recently made the claim that NVIDIA’s upcoming Blackwell series will only incorporate GDDR7 in its top 3 gaming dies, presumably for the RTX 5090, 5080 and 5070 leaving the 5060, and possibly even 5050 with GDDR6X. Of course being a rumour we take this very lightly, especially as Tweaktown claims rumours from RedGamingTech pointed towards GDDR7 being used on the full lineup of Blackwell GPUs.

XpeaGPU further added on with some predictions on the performance levels on the RTX 5080. They claim the performance of GB203 (5080) will be close to AD102 (4090) in raster and faster in RT but it will all depend on AMD’s competitiveness for the next generation.

It’s too early to say anything on this upcoming generation other than it will be more powerful than the last generation and probably cost an arm and a leg. It’s also worth wondering whether NVIDIA will learn from their mistake with the 4080 12GB fiasco or will they repeat the same mistake and shift their entire lineup again.
