Trying to find accurate information on prices for DDR4 is like shooting fish in a barrel blindfolded. Even if you do get a shot on target, the prices and availability are anyone’s guess. We found them at Amazon for £225.79, which is a lot of money, but such is the market for DDR4 memory in 2017! I strongly suggest you search all your favourite retailers regularly to find stock at the best price possible.
There are a lot of impressive memory kits on the market these days, although, to a certain extent, their performance is pretty similar within each respective price range with very few exceptions. The latest from GeIL isn’t the fastest in the world, nor is it the slowest. Of course, it performs where you would expect a 3000 MHz memory kit to perform. The tighter CL 15-17-17-35 timings are welcome though. When it came to testing, it delivered some very competitive performance that’s sure to work great in any kind of gaming system.
Without a doubt, these are some of the best-made modules on the market right now. I’ve long been a fan of the designs GeIL use, and the huge panels of brushed black aluminium are drop-dead gorgeous. If you’re rocking a Lian-Li chassis with the same finish, I couldn’t think of a finer match. Of course, that taller design means a larger surface area for cooling, and it’s unlike that heat will be an issue for these modules, even if you’re pushing much higher overclocks.
Performance is easy in the PC market, just throw enough money in the pot and you’ll get where you need to be. However, the market is very focused on design these days too, and great looking hardware is just as important to many system builders. Equipped with MSI and ASUS RGB lighting support, you can hook these modules directly into your motherboard using the included cables. By doing so, you can sync and customise the RGB lighting to match the rest of your system, which is awesome.
By default, they’ll cycle through various colours, but you can use the switch on each DIMM to change that even if you don’t have RGB support on your motherboard. Pair that with the strong contrasting black PCB and heat sink, and you’ve got a great looking design. Shame the switch is bright red though, it feels a little too bright to really enjoy colours that now contrast with it; perhaps black would be better next time GeIL.
