GeIL Evo X RoG 16GB 3000MHz DDR4 Memory Review

Final Thoughts
Price
The stock of many DDR4 modules is terrible at the moment, so it comes as little surprise that I can’t find these in stock anywhere right now. The standard modules are on Amazon for around £200, with some retailers listing similar kits for around £180. If you can find stock, I would expect to pay around the £200 mark, but the market is quite volatile right now, unfortunately.
Overview
It’s worth keeping in mind that this kit is pretty much identical to the GeIL EVO X 3000 MHz kit, with just a few minor aesthetics twists thrown in for good measure. Of course, GeIL says it’s rated to work best on ASUS motherboard, but I wonder just how much work actually went into that, or if they simply found one that works and stuck an RoG badge on it. Either way, for ASUS RoG users, it’s an extra peace of mind and you should expect easier setup and easier overclocking on compatible motherboards; certainly no bad thing.
Performance
As I said, it’s the same as their other kit which we tested. However, it did perform marginally better, but not by a significant margin and every kit is a little bit different depending on the quality of each chip on the PCB. Still, with good overclocking performance and good CL 15-17-17-35 timings, it’s a solid performer for any gaming build.
Build Quality
With an all-black PCB, black brushed aluminium heatsinks and that lovely RoG detailing, they’re some of the best looking and best-made modules you can buy right now. Well, if you can find stock, ZING! The larger heatsink design will certainly help keep them cool, even when running your system to the max for extended periods. Of course, it’ll help with overclocking too, keeping performance and temperatures stable.
The built-in RGB lighting is a nice touch too, and even cooler for those who want to use ASUS Aura Sync for custom effects. Those who don’t can still use the built-in slider to toggle them to RGB cycles or a fixed colour though, and that means no extra cables needed, keeping them looking cleaner.
