Availability of GeIL memory kits isn’t amazing here in the UK. However, a bit of Google-Fu will find you a set for around £140, which is pretty good given we’ve seen kits with the same speed and looser timings for over £150. Memory prices are awful right now, but hopefully this will improve in the coming months. Either way, this is still a competitively priced memory kit.

Overview

GeIL has produced many fantastic memory kits over the years, and their new Super Luce 16GB DDR 4 is pretty great too. Like pretty much any memory kit I’ve ever tested, it’s not perfect, but there are some silver linings to be found too.

The first problem sticks out loud and clear in our benchmarks. We were able to overclock this memory to 3200 MHz, and it gave us some small improvement in some scores. However, it had a negative impact overall, and it’s clear this memory is just not happy running beyond its stock XMP profile of 3000 MHz. Now, that’s not really such a bad thing, there are many modules on the market that are designed to overclock higher. Although, if you have no interest in overclocking your memory, this isn’t going to be a problem for you anyway. That being said, the stock profile is blazing fast, and gave some fantastic benchmark results that should not be ignored.

The price is slightly cheaper than some of the competition. This is interesting, as the performance is great, but could be in reflection of the overclocking limitations. Either way, it makes the Super Luce a bit of a diamond in the rough in terms of value. It may only be a little cheaper, but it’s still 3000 MHz, and delivers some robust timings and low latency. All of which have actual real world benefits to your overall performance.

The build quality looks and feels great too. While I admit that not everyone will love the heat spreader design, I think it looks pretty cool. The LED light bar on the top is a bit of a gimmick, but it’s not like many people don’t love a few LEDs thrown in for good measure.
