Gelid Icy Vision Rev. 2 VGA Cooler Review

InstallationPreparing the RAM and VRM heatsinks is fairly simple yet time consuming. You must use the supplied and pre-cut double-sided thermal tape to stick the metal heatsink to it’s destination component.

A very sturdy and tall VRM heatsink is used along with a thermally conductive rubber pad. Hopefully this large, all-in-one solution will finally conquer our toasty VRMs.

Upon completion, the Icy Vision covers the majority of our Radeon HD 4870’s large PCB. The cooler is by no means small yet it still looks elegant and classy.

3 PCI slots are required to give the clearance needed to use this beastly cooler.

The black shielded fan cable plugs directly into a 4-pin VGA fan header. It is very easy to hide making everything look neat yet its black design will ensure neatness even when it can’t be hidden

Gelid’s Icy Vision rev. 2 looks very attractive and sleek once fitted into our test system. It is a large cooler, occupying 3 PCI slots, but it’s design means that interference is kept to a minimum as there are no extra heatpipes or components extruding past the side or end of our graphics card’s PCB.

Installation wasn’t the most difficult of procedures provided you own small screwdrivers and multiple types, it was time consuming however. The lengthy instruction manual is easy to follow with a coloured diagram then explanation nearby. The quantity of words however made procedures a little tricky to follow on times and the fact that some steps were completely absent in English such as “tighten the VRM heatsink using spring nut F” yet were present in other languages did show a slight lapse in concentration when designing the instruction manual.
