There’s a huge market of mechanical keyboards already on the market, with many featuring the same basic design, the same switches, the same RGB lighting, with few noticeable differences between them in terms of features. The Wooting One looks like most any other keyboard too, it has a standard layout, it has RGB lighting, it has mechanical switches, but not the kind you’re used to using.
This keyboard recently got funded on Kickstarter, and is now available to pre-order for $180, which isn’t exactly cheap given the kind of keyboards already in that price range from more establish brands. However, this keyboard features full analogue input thanks to its Flaretech Optical Switches. The switches come in a linear and silent red variant, as well as a click blue switch similar to Cherry MX.
Leave the keyboard in standard mode, it’ll behave as a normal mechanical keyboard, but put it in gaming mode and you get analog control that responds to pressure. Hold down W lightly and you’ll creep up on your enemies, hold it down harder and you walk, harder again, you’ll run. This is great for driving gaming, FPS and more, although it will take some getting used to.
There are a few issues going on with game support, manufacturer and shipping of the keyboard, but Wooting One said they’re working getting everything worked out asap.
