We Get Hands-On With the RTX 2060 at CES 2019

RTX 2060

Overwatch and Fortnite, among a few other games, running on the RTX 2060 really got our attention. Even though it was 1440p @ Ultra settings, framerates were pushing around 200 on each and around 60 to 100 on other much more demanding titles. Not too shabby at all for a £350 GPU.

Nvidia has had some stick for the high prices of RTX, and that’s fair enough. However, it’s not like cards within a more reasonable budget aren’t out there, and they’re very much still capable of playing games at good resolutions and ultra quality. The RTX 2060 is much more affordable, and we’re admittedly very excited to get one on our test bench.

The ran Battlefield V on ultra at 1440p, with Ray Tracing enabled, and we were seeing around 45-50 FPS, not perfect, but it’s in the ballpark of good performance. We benchmark games on High, not on Ultra, as the fidelity difference is nearly nothing and the performance improvements are quite drastic. With DLSS on the way to the game soon, you can bet your ass 60 FPS will be an easy goal though, even at 1440p for this card.

Not so much playable games at the show, but we saw Atomic Heart and Sol demos running in real time. I was able to change in-game assets and overall, the graphics look bloody amazing. If RT performance is this great in real life on the RTX 2060, I think they’ll be a lot of happy gamers out there.

The cards themselves look pretty modest and quite compact. Nvidia has their founders edition which looks great and promises good overclocking. There are basically stock models from partners, and OC models from them too. In terms of performance, it seems they’ll be (low to high), 3rd party stock cards, Founders, then OC editions. Prices should be anywhere from £350 to a little over £400.
