Getting Over It Speedrun World Record Gets Broken In Style

Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy
Anyone who takes a casual peruse of YouTube or ‘ let’s play’ videos cannot help but notice the phenomenon that is ‘Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy’. The concept is very simple. You must get a man (in a cooking pot) up a mountain using nothing but a climbing hammer. I should note that the game came to our attention long before it hit YouTube fame.
Now, at the point that I reveal that this was created by the same Satanic genius as QWOP, things become clear. The concept might be simple, but the application is anything but.
The game itself is very deliberately designed to be a testament to trial, error and persistence in overcoming obstacles. While the overwhelming theme of Undertale might have been ‘determination’, Getting Over It makes a good case for that as well.
The game has, in addition to gaining a lot of players, also quickly garnered itself a strong following in the speedrun community. Well, amazingly, the speedrun world record has been broken in a time under 2 minutes. Yes, just 2 minutes. A game which famous YouTube personality Markiplier claimed took him over 20 hours. Upon breaking the record, however, the person who did it decided to quit, with style.
World Record!
YouTube speedrun enthusiast Distortion2 recently broke the world record for Getting Over It completing the game in a time of 1 minute and 56 seconds. While I daresay a few seconds could be shaved, this is a near perfect run.
After breaking the world record, however, while Distortion2 did have a brief moment of celebration. This was very short lived though. His attention quickly turned to a much more pressing matter. Uninstalling the game.
Yes, in less than 30 seconds from breaking the world record in impressive style, Distortion2’s next action was to quit and uninstall the game. Clearly having ‘Got Over It’ he wanted to ‘Get Rid of It’.
So, kudos to Distortion2 for setting a highly impressive speedrun time. In addition, doing so with a notable degree of swag.
