Where to Buy

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It’s currently listed at £49.99 from the Ubisoft Store for the standard edition. However, there’s also the Gold Edition at £83.99, Ultimate Edition at £99.99 and if you’ve got a fatter wallet this month, the Wolves Collectors Edition at £149.99. However, that edition does come with a collectable model.

Overview

The scale and the ambition of what they’ve tried to do with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint are impressive. It really does take the whole series in a fresh direction. Part of me pines for the tighter tactical planning and map navigation of the earlier releases though. However, what we have here is pretty unique and fun in its own ways. The story is pretty tight, with a good bad guy, some great characters and it’s pretty enjoyable. It gives a good catalyst to the overall gameplay too.

Flaws

It’s not perfect, but damn, is any game right from launch these days? There are some bugs that crop up. Then we’ve had server issues, which is again a common issue at the launch of a game these days. Some of the mechanics are a bit janky too, such as the cover system. However, it doesn’t seem much that a few patches wouldn’t fix up soon enough. This doesn’t detract from the fact we’ve had fun playing it though.

Performance

It’s fair to say that Ubisoft has done a pretty good job here. Older graphics cards proved more than capable of getting some playable frame rates. If you’re short on rendering power, dropping to medium settings can bring big gains. You will lose some visual quality. However, the game is so good looking that it has some visuals to spare.

Those on higher-end cards will obviously reap a lot of rewards. It’s not an easy game to get big FPS out of high refresh displays. However, at high settings, you can get a steady mixture of jaw-dropping visuals and solid frame rates out of it. The benchmark may be in beta, but the gameplay is tight. I suspect a few driver updates from Nvidia and AMD and a patch or three from Ubisoft will see some big improvements here. I suspect we may be retesting in the very near future to see if that’s true though.
