Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Review (PC) – Bustin’ Makes Me Feel (Mostly) Good

Earlier this year, Illfonic Games announced the upcoming release of a brand-new, and truly exciting, title – Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed. Yes, we were getting a brand new Ghostbusters game and I think it would be fair to say that the overall response from the community was mostly of cautious optimism. We were, of course, excited to get a new game from one of the most beloved film franchises of all time even if we do have the somewhat cautionary tale of mixed opinions about previous releases.

With Illfonic Games kindly sending us a review code for Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed, however, rest assured I was exceptionally keen to check this out. – Would bustin’ make me feel good though? Well, the answer is (mostly) yes!

Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed

So, what exactly is Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed? Well, it’s essentially (another) new title in the asymmetric multiplayer ‘survival’ genre. If you’re familiar with games like Dead by Daylight, Phasmophobia, Evil Dead, etc. you’re already over halfway there into understanding exactly what you’re (generally speaking) getting into here. – And we should note that this isn’t necessarily bad news as the game’s developer, Illfonic, does have a fair amount of experience in this particular genre with Friday the 13th and Predator Hunting Grounds proving to be reasonably popular mentions on their resumé.

So, we’ve played it and we’re now ready to give you a quick rundown of the gameplay and our overall thoughts. – Rest assured though, just because we were given this copy to review, that doesn’t mean we have to be nice about it. The good news though is that Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed is a (mostly) pretty fun experience!

Official Game Description

“Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a fun, multiplayer game perfect for all skill levels. Four proton pack wielding Ghostbusters attempt to catch a Ghost haunting unique locations in asymmetrical multiplayer battles (online or offline). As players progress, they will unlock cosmetics and upgrades for both Ghostbusters and Ghosts to evolve their gameplay experiences. The look and feel will deliver to fans an immersive experience in the universe, allowing them to play out their Ghostbusting fantasies. Whether hunting or haunting, the game is easy to learn and fun to master!”

System Requirements

The system requirements for Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed are pleasantly benign meaning that most of you reading this shouldn’t have any problems accessing this new release. Albeit, as you can see below, it does seem that when ray tracing is turned on, everything hardware-wise should be kicked up a few rungs on the ladder. – In terms of its PC performance/optimisation, however, we will get onto that later in this review.
