Gigabyte is announcing the re-launch of the Z370 Ultra Gaming motherboard. This time it is version 2.0, providing improved VRM and some additional features. While Gigabyte tends to make silent revisions previously with their boards, this time it is quite clear as even the product page says “Ultra Gaming 2.0 Rev 1.0” in the header, instead of “Ultra Gaming Rev. 2.0”. It still has all the features from the previously announced Aorus Z370 Ultra Gaming. That includes the USB 3.1 Gen2, Realtek ALC1220 120dB SNR HD audio, digital LEDs and dual M.2 slots.
The VRM has improved, not just in terms of better cooling but quality as well. The original design with its 4+3 phases tends to run much hotter than most motherboards under load. Especially when overclocked. The heatsink now has additional airflow channels to aid with cooling as well. This should help pushing the Z370 Ultra Gaming 2.0 to better overclocking conditions. Furthermore, it also now has an additional M.2 heatsink for the slot near the CPU slot. This slot supports M.2 drives up to the 22110 form factor (110mm long) and PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds.
Like the Ultra Gaming 1.0, the PCIe x16 and DIMM slots have metal reinforcements. The layout is also similar with RGB LEDs all over. It also has an analog RGB LED and a digital RGB header (3-pin). This lets users hook up additional lighting and run up to 300 digital LEDs at the same time. There is also a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C connector port at the rear, supporting up to 10Gb/s. Gigabyte also just happens to have the fastest USB 3.1 Gen2 implementation in the market using Chipset+ASMedia USB 3.1 controller.
There is no word on pricing yet, but expect it to be the same as the original price for the Ultra Gaming 1.0. The original has seen some price cuts in recent months since its release, so that should also give some users option if overclocking is not a main issue for them.
