Gigabyte announces the revision 1.2 of their 990FXA-UD3 motherboard

Gigabyte recently announced an update on their 990FXA-UD3 going to revision 1.2.

Compared to the 1.0, which would be the first release, the 1.2 sees itself benefitting the AMD FX processor supported right out of the box. You also lose the eSATA 6Gbps for two USB combos eSATA 3Gbps (driven by a JMicron JMB363 controller), so you get down to six ‘pure’ USB2.0, and two combos. Gone as well is the internal IEEE1394a which sees itself added to the first one on the rear panel, for a total of two on the rear I/O.

The other features stay the same, you still get a 8+2 phase VRM powering the AM3+ socket, as well as the UltraDurable 3 Classic construction specifications, 2 oz copper-layered PCB, 50,000+ hours worth of capacitor durability as well as the DualBIOS.

As far as components go, four dual-channel DDR3 DIMM slots supporting DDR3-2000 MHz with oveclocking, a total of four PCI-Express x16 slots although two are directly wired to the AMD 990FX bridge therefore running both at PCI-Express 2.0 x16 continually while the two remaining are electrical PCI-Express x4 wired to the SB950 southbridge. Also featured are two PCI-Express x1 and only one Legacy PCI. NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX are both supported.

This board is also equipped with six internal SATA 6Gbps as well as four USB3.0, two internal and two on the rear. Speaking of the rear I/O, you also get 8 channel HD audio from a Realtek ALC889 codec driver and one gigabit Ethernet connection by a Realtek RTL8111E.

Being a Gigabyte board you get their AwardBIOS with the HybridEFI extensions for booting from drives bigger than 2.2TB (as reported, no UEFI BIOS until the X79 boards).

The revision 1.2 of the GA-990FXA-UD3 will be priced at approximately $160.
