Gigabyte Announces the X399 AORUS Pro Motherboard

New Motherboard Option for AMD Threadripper

A new product page is up for Gigabyte‘s X399 AORUS PRO motherboard. This is yet another addition to their AMD Threadripper compatible lineup, which includes the X399 AORUS Gaming 7 we have previously reviewed here. The X399 AORUS Pro does not have as much features, but it is nonetheless quite a feature packed motherboard.

The motherboard’s VRM uses server-class 4th Gen Digital PWM controllers and 3rd Gen PowIR stage ICs. These are of course under heatpiped heatsinks to keep temperatures in check.

The CPU socket in the middle is flanked with eight DDR4 DIMM slots (four on each side), supporting up to 128GB of DDR4 memory.

What Kind of Connectivity Options are Available on this Motherboard?

There are eight SATA3 6G ports and three M.2 slots free for NVMe PCIe or SATA SSDs. These M.2 slots are directly linked to available CPU lanes since AMD is generous in providing those. That means it will run faster than ones tied through the chipset. Two of these M.2 slots support up to 22110 M.2 form factor, while the sole 2280 M.2 form factor slot comes with a heatsink.

On-board, there is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 with a USB 3.1 Gen 2 header. These continue to the rear with two more USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. One of which is a Type-A (coloured red above) and a Type-C. Meanwhile, eight more USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are in the rear IO.

There is also a Gigabit Ethernet port available via an Intel i211AT GbE LAN. As for the audio subsystem, it uses a Realtek ALC1220 120dB HD audio codec with Nichicon and WIMA audio caps.

How Much is the Gigabyte X399 AORUS Pro Motherboard?

The X399 AORUS Pro motherboard has an MSRP of $279 USD, which is about $150 cheaper than the X399 AORUS XTREME model.
