GIGABYTE has been teasing their own take on the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti ever since the Founder’s Edition was unveiled. Their offering will be part of their high-end AORUS gaming line and will have similar base features, as well as look like their previously released AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 with some upgrades including a 12+2 phase power design, factory overclock, dual 8-pin power connectors.
GIGABYTE claims their AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU will come pre-binned through their “GPU Gauntlet” sorting, that is why it comes with high out-of-the-box factory overclocks available in two modes: OC and Gaming mode. In Gaming mode, it will have a base clock of 1569 MHz and will boost up to 1683 MHz, while in OC mode it starts at 1594 MHz and boost up to 1708 MHz. For reference, the Founder’s Edition GTX 1080 Ti has a boost clock of up to 1582MHz.
To keep temperatures in-check, the AORUS GTX 1080 Ti utilizes Gigabyte’s Windforce cooling system but reinforced with a copper backplate and a front copper base plate. These are both direct contact copper units to maximize air cooling potential. The front copper baseplate not just covers the GPU itself but also is in contact with the RAM modules surrounding the GPU. A 6+1 heatpipe configuration (6x 6mm + 1x 8mm) distribute heatfrom the central core towards two sets of aluminum fin arrays which are then actively cooled by three 100mm fans. These fans have a unique “stacked” position so they overlap and make sure there are no dead zones for airflow. They are also double-ball bearing fans with Gigabyte’s stripe fin design for optimal operation.
The AORUS GTX 1080 Ti has no shortage of display connectivity as well, having full VR support with its VR-link display located in the front and two HDMI 2.0b ports in the rear. There are also three DisplayPorts 1.4 and one DVI-D port available, all of which can be mixed and matched for a total of four max simultaneous display outputs.
Like most high-end products these days the Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1080 Ti also has RGB LED features on the fan shroud and on the sides. This can be configured and be put in sync with a Gigabyte motherboard via Gigabyte’s RGB Fusion app.
