With AMD soon to launch their Zen based CPUs, motherboards for the new chips have also been leaked as well. One of the first to be leaked is one of Gigabyte’s new AX370-Gaming series motherboards. While we only have a bare PCB to look at, it does reveal quite a lot of details about the upcoming AX370 chipset platform. The board will likely launch in early 2017 alongside Ryzen and other Zen CPUs.
Ryzen and other Zen CPUs will be using the same AM4 platform that is powering desktop Bristol Ridge APUs. The key addition is the new AX370 enthusiast grade chipset which will offer all the essential high-end features. We can see that power is provided by the 24 pin and 8 pin EPS power connectors. The board is also in the ATX form factor and features 4 DIMM slots connected to the AM4 socket.
One interesting note is that the power delivery features just 7 phases. This means the board is likely only mid range and not the top of the line Gaming series motherboard. This explains why there is only one PCIe 3.0 x16, a second 3.0 x16 slot that’s electrical x4, and three other gen 3.0 x1 slots. Connectivity is wrapped up by at least eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports, and one 32 Gb/s M.2 slot, 8-channel HD audio, gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.1. Gigabytes Dual-BIOS is offered as well which suggests a mid range and not a budget board.
