Gigabyte G27Q 144Hz QHD IPS Gaming Monitor Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Gigabyte G27Q 144Hz QHD IPS Gaming Monitor Review is available now on Amazon for just £229.99, making it very affordable for a lot of PC gamers looking to get a good balance of resolution, refresh rate and response times. Admittedly you can get similarly equipped monitors for a bit less now, but from import no-name brands that we can’t vouch for. However, the price is on par with the likes of ACER, AOC, and MSI for similar VA, TA, and IPS models.

Overview

Gigabyte has a very interesting monitor here, largely due to the price of it, but keep in mind that it does come with a few small compromises that you should consider. The contrast isn’t the best I’ve seen, but at the same time, it’s no better or worse than similarly priced IPS panels. It supports HDR, but like any other edge lit monitor, it’s not really worth using in any scenario, but the SDR performance is pretty fantastic, so that’s hardly a deal breaker. It also lacks some ergonomic adjustments, but again, hardly a deal breaker for a lot of us that you can’t turn it side to side. The gamma setting is pretty out of whack by default, but as I said earlier, setting it to “gamma 2” gets it perfect, and I’m not sure why it’s not like that by default.

There’s a lot of strength here though, such as the 95% DCI-P3 colour reproduction, which it achieves with a Delta-E (colour accuracy) of around 1.3. Anything under 5 is reasonable, under 3 is great, and under 2 is really exceptional colour accuracy you could rely on for colour sensitive editing work.

27″ is a good size for work and gaming, and the 2560×1440 resolution provides a great pixel density with a very clear image even when sitting very close to the display. Of course, it gives you more resolution to deal with smaller text, multiple side by side windows, and makes your games look better too.

The refresh rate is a respectable 144Hz with the IPS panel having a surprisingly swift 1ms response time, making it feel pretty tight and responsive for competitive gaming, but also just more enjoyable even for single player gaming, as more games support high refresh rates than ever these days.

Finally, there’s pretty robust I/O, with three display inputs, and a USB hub built in, making it easy to hook up your PC, consoles or laptop, as well as your peripherals with ease.

Should I Buy One?

There are a lot of monitors for around the same price, all of which have their own unique pros and cons, but sticking to the big-name brands only, the Gigabyte G27Q is very competitive. The colour reproduction, refresh rate, resolution and screen size hit a sweet spot in terms of daily performance, and it all comes at a price that’s sure to appeal to your wallet too.
