Gigabyte G5 KD 15.6″ RTX 3060 Gaming Laptop Review

A Closer Look

The Gigabyte G5 KD doesn’t break from convention when it comes to laptop design, it kinda looks as you would expect really. There’s a beautifully finished top/rear cover on it, with a nice and simple Gigabyte logo stamped right into the middle. A lot of gaming laptops throw some RGB here or something, but I’m glad they haven’t, it’s really not needed.

Down the left side, there are a few slots of ventilation and I can see the workings of a heatsink behind it, so that’s likely one of the main exhausts for the GPU and/or CPU. A good place to keep your coffee cup warm while gaming I suspect.

Towards the front, there are two USB ports, as well as two audio jacks, all pretty straightforward stuff really.

On the right side, again, another heatsink and ventilation combo, albeit this one is smaller, so I suspect this one is actually for the CPU and the larger one on the left for the graphics card.

Next to that, you have another USB port, a mini-DisplayPort, and a card reader, again, covering all the basics.

Around the back, you’ll find a Type-C port, HDMI, and the Gigabyte ethernet port. Interesting though, as I can’t recall the last time, if ever, that I saw ports on the rear of a laptop. Other than the power socket that is.

There’s a matching set of ventilation ports on the left and right corners too.

On the underside, there are some thick rubber reet giving the whole thing about 3-4mm of clearance and there’s ventilation all over the place, ensuring cool air can be pulled into the fans inside the laptop. At the back, there’s a small battery compartment, which features a 48.96Whrs which should be good for a bit of light work or a very short gaming session if needed. However, this being a gaming laptop, you’ll want to keep this 180W power adaptor with you.

The power adaptor is slim at least, so it’ll fit in a good laptop bag easily enough.
