Gigabyte GA-Z77-UP4 TH (Z77) Motherboard Review

We’ve mentioned time and time again that we hate the i7 3770k that we have as it’s a terrible overclocker, but we thought we’d give it a go none the less. With that in mind, we started with the 46x multiplier that we used for our full benchmark tests and took it from there by increasing to the 47x multiplier, the onto the 48x bracket.

Pushing the board to the limits came with a couple of surprises. Looking at the CPU-z screenshot above we can see that not only have we got a very respectable 4.97GHz but this is at completely stock voltages. Not one part of the 3D Power of CPU voltage control was altered and all we did was raise the multiplier up to 48x (any higher and the system wouldn’t boot) followed by slowly raising the BCLK to 103.61MHz. When we tried to take things even further by tinkering with the voltage controls, we found that no matter what we did, the chip was not having any of it and 4.97GHz was the best we was going to see.
