Motherboard and video card manufacturer GIGABYTE is announcing the official launch of their Gaming Box eGPU system. The external enclosure comes with an AORUS GTX 1070 graphics card inside, providing plug-and-play external graphics solution via Thunderbolt 3. This solution is ideal for laptop or mini-PC users who want to game but stuck with integrated graphics.
The enclosure itself measures 212 x 96 x 162mm, so it is relatively compact and portable. It only weighs a little over 2360g since it has a 450W power supply inside, so you can take it easily to a LAN party. This power supply has an 80-plus Gold rating with greater than 90% efficiency. To make it even more portable, GIGABYTE also provides a padded carry bag for the device. The power cord and a 500mm long Thunderbolt 3 cable is also included in the package so it is ready to use right out of the box.
Aside from the Thunderbolt 3 Type-C connector, there are four other USB 3.0 ports available. One of these is a Quick-charge 3.0 port so users can plug in their mobile device while gaming. Thunderbolt 3 provides so much bandwidth that users can plug-in extra storage via the USB 3.0 ports. These can also be used to connect peripherals instead.
Users can also connect additional displays to the system via 1x HDMI, 1x DP or 2x DL DVI-D ports on the AORUS GTX 1070 Mini-ITX card itself.
To keep the internal components from getting toasty, Gigabyte designed the AORUS GTX 1070 Gaming Box eGPU to have fully ventilated left and right side panels. It also has fancy RGB LED lighting via GIGABYTE RGB Fusion. This LED lights up the internal floor of the enclosure and its behaviour can be changed through several preset modes.
