NVIDIA’s GTX 950 is allegedly set to launch on August 20th but this hasn’t stopped YouTube channel Discos Duros y Mas from opening an aftermarket model, prior to release. The video features Gigabyte’s small form-factor GTX 950 which utilizes a single 90mm fan for cooling. While this particular card isn’t particularly powerful, it should cope with popular games without huge graphical demands. Unfortunately, the video is in Spanish and I’m unable to deduce anything that’s been said. Although, according to my Portuguese friend, the video title translates to,
“We present you the unboxing of the NVIDIA video card, a worth successor of GTX750ti.”
The GTX 950 is based on NVIDIA’s GM206 core and contains 768 Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) cores with 2GB VRAM on a 128-bit interface. Early reports suggest the core clock will be 1089 MHz while the boost speed ramps up to 1266 MHZ. Perhaps the most impressive feat is this can be achieved through a 90W TDP. This is 30W less than the GTX 960 so it will be interesting to compare the raw performance numbers.
AMD intends to counteract the GTX 960’s release with the R9 370X. This is because the current R7 370 is extremely underpowered and performs poorly in compute benchmarks. I’m looking forward to the GPU showdown to see which card ends up on top.
