The world’s most compact GTX 1080 teased by Gigabyte more than two months ago is finally available. The previous record holder for shortest GTX 1080 belongs to Zotac, who has a 211mm long model. Due to the fact that it has a 90mm fan at the back and a 100mm fan at the front, the cooling system extends longer than the PCB. So it could have actually been shorter by a 10 or 15 more millimeters.
However, Gigabyte wants to truly lock down the crown so they have made their GTX 1080 mini only 169mm long, which is compact even by some Mini-ITX GTX 1060 standards. It only has a single 90mm, fan, but underneath it has a triple direct copper heatpipe heatsink. The 90m fan is also using the same design that Gigabyte uses on all their high-end models, having a 3D stripe curve which provides 23% better airflow and lower noise.
It also slightly updates the VRM design to 5+2 from the 5+1 reference. What you can be sure of is that it uses better component selection since it has the Gigabyte Ultra Durable label. Besides, NVIDIA reference VRM component selection and design aren’t exactly the top of the line. It comes with factory overclocks of 1607MHz base and 1733MHz boost when in gaming mode (matches the FE reference). Although, users can also use the OC mode preset which runs the base at 1632MHz with a 1771MHz boost.
Users in the US will be able to buy it starting October 27 for $539.99. Meanwhile, users in the UK can buy it from Amazon.co.uk for £515.
