A while back there were various reports surrounding GIGABYTE graphics cards which involved PCB’s cracking near the PCIe slot. This was of course concerning and could be attributed to the enormous coolers being used on RTX 4080 and 4090 graphics cards. Since the release of the 4080 SUPER, it has been noted that GIGABYTE has made some changes to the PCB which should prevent this problem from occuring.
Reinforced GIGABYTE GPU PCB’s
A redesign of GIGABYTE’s PCB was spotted by MisinformationALWAYS on Reddit and involves a reinforced thicker PCB near towards the PCIe slot which was where the crack would occur. Now the newly released 4080 SUPER features this revision by default, but there is also a new RTX 4090 Gaming OC V1.1 variant which features this reinforcement plus a beefier 70a VRM setup.
It’s good that GIGABYTE are making this change, hopefully it works as expected too but only time will tell. If you’re buying yourself a new RTX 4090 graphics card and happen to choose GIGABYTE, just make sure you get the revised version.
