Gigabyte Issues Recall on Aero 15 Laptops

Gigabyte has issued an urgent recall on its newly released Aero 15 Laptops due to a significant safety concern. The recall comes following some high praise of its high-performance laptop. It is highly unusual for a company which such a good reputation.

What is the reason for the recall on the Gigabyte Aero 15?

Gigabyte has failed to confirm or deny any particular issue with the product. However, a source revealed that an insider at Gigabyte reported that an issue with the battery was to blame. The exact fault in unclear, however, given recent criticism over Samsung’s failure to address a battery fault. It is with some irony that the Aero 15 94Wh battery was one of the most distinguishing features of the gaming laptop; the battery withstood a 10-hour life span under load.

UPDATE

After looking into the issue and speaking with Gigabyte direct, it seems that a retailer was quick to blame the battery of the unit when in fact there is no problem with the battery at all. The issue looks like it stems from a software issue which is something that can easily be rectified and an e-tailer have misaddressed the issue and relayed it to a customer.

Gigabyte has made it clear that certified vendors supply their batteries. They have also contacted the customer in question to put any worries to bed, They are focused on moving forward once the software issue is addressed and rectified.

This whole matter seems to be a miscommunication from a retailer and could potentially damage Gigabytes brand. Therefore we found it important to investigate and report our findings as above.

I haven’t heard about the Aero 15, what can you tell me about it?

The Aero 15 is an excellent gaming laptop. With an Intel i7-7700k processor and Nvidia 1060, this laptop was better than most gaming PCs. As noted above, with a superb battery life, this was being touted as one of the best gaming laptops currently on the market. However, so soon into the release the recall may impact upon that. Although, we should note that this quick action might save the reputation of an otherwise excellent product. Perhaps one of the few products which compete with this at the moment is Acer’s Predator Triton, which we covered last week.

I own an Aero 15, what should I do?

Gigabyte should have contacted all registered owners by the time you read this. Although the fault is not serious, it concerns enough to warrant a full recall. This swift action is commendable. Gigabyte is coming across as caring for their product and reputation. A policy which should be adopted by other companies.
