With dual Thunderbolt you can connect 12 devices,6 per port, with daisy chaining and put a display at the end of each of those chains. There is also the possibility of running a third screen via the rear IO and Ivy Bridge IGP. Both of the dual Thunderbolt ports will be available via the rear IO of the new Gigabyte Thunderbolt motherboards.
The Thunderbolt 10Gbps is unique in that the bi-directional data flow allows for both DisplayPort and PCI Express traffic. Currently, if you’re interested in getting yourself a Thunderbolt device you’re mainly limited to a handful of companies who have been around since the Apple-Thunderbolt days, but a few new companies have jumped on board. Promise Technology, LaCie, BlackMagic, Western Digital, Seagate, Elgato, CalDigit and Sumitomo all offer Thunderbolt products.
The Gigabyte boards that are going to get dual Thunderbolt connectivity include the: Z77X-UP5, Z77X-UP4 and Z77MXD3H.
