Gaming motherboards are usually the most reliable and most feature-rich motherboards available, but they’re usually quite pricey, which means that budget-limited gamers often decide to spend their cash on a better graphics card or a processor instead. However, thanks to Gigabyte and its new P85-Gaming 3 motherboard, you can now purchase a cheap yet reliable base for your gaming build without feeling like you’ve sacrificed too much in the way of quality. That being said, this board does come with a few limitations, particularly when it comes to connectivity as it boasts just a single HDMI port as well as four USB 3.0 ports.
However, the single HDMI port is not that big of a drawback, as most users will probably choose to purchase a regular graphics card anyway. Boasting a 190mm wide ATX form-factor, the board is powered by a mix of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS connectors while the CPU gets its juice via a regular 4-phase VRM. As far as the expansion slots are concerned, there’s one PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot, a second x16 slot, two PCIe 2.0 x1 and two legacy PCI. Storage includes four SATA 6 Gb/s and a pair of SATA 3 Gb/s ports, while the onboard audio is ensured by a Realtek ALC892 CODEC complemented by high-quality electrolytic capacitors, ground-layer isolation and a headphones amplifier.
The P85-Gaming 3 motherboard by Gigabyte will cost less than $100, which is quite cheap considering its gaming-orientated characteristics.
