After being leaked out right before launch, Gigabyte has now officially revealed their RX 460 graphics cards. Using the new Polaris 11 GPU, the RX 460 WINDFORCE OC bring the Gigabyte touch to AMD’s latest budget offering.
As expected from the name, the RX 460 WINDOFRCE OC features a factory overclock to 1212 Mhz which is only a tad higher than the 1200 Mhz stock boost speed. Given that all AIB partners are ending up about there, one wonders why this is the case. Perhaps the card is running into power limits as it forgoes the use of a PCIe power connector. This means all the power is going over the PCIe bus, limiting power draw to 75W. This may be why the card can’t clock that high due to power constraints.
Ironically, the card features a stronger power delivery system than the reference model, with 4+1 power phases compared to 3+1. They are also made using Ultra Durable chokes and capacitors to ensure higher reliability and lower operating temperatures. Given the low power draw, it might even be possible to simply passively cool these components.
The card comes in both a 2GB and 4 GB variant though 4GB won’t be necessary in most cases. For cooling, the card has dual 80mm fans which can also run in 0dB mode during light usage. The fans also feature a 3D stripe to enhance airflow. Doubtless, the cooling solution is a tad overkill but it should make for a cool and quiet card. There is no word yet on pricing but availability starts now.
