Gigabyte Offers More 10 Gigabit LAN
Gigabyte has a new networking card for those who want to add 10 Gigabit LAN connection. In fact, this one adds not one but four 10GbE ports via PCIe x16 Gen3. The Gigabyte CLN4M34 even does so while being an MD2 low-profile card measuring 130 x 68.9mm. It includes a bracket for a full-height option as well of course.
What is the Controller and Connector Port Used?
It uses a Mellanox ConnectX-4 controller with four SFP28 LAN ports. The SFP28 has the same form factor as the SFP+ on typical 10G although the SFP28 theoretically supports up to 28G. Hence the name, but it is designed for 25G signal transmission. SFP28 also offers superior impedance control and less crosstalk over SFP+. Naturally it is compatible with SFP+ connections as well.
To ensure that this controller does not overheat, Gigabyte outfitted the card with an actively cooled aluminium heatsink. This comes with a single 40mm fan which is low-profile so that it does not exceed one-card height. This product is dedicated for GIGABYTE Purley generation server board and system use only.
