Since the reveal of Intel’s Skylake architecture, Gigabyte has unleashed a massive range of motherboards sporting different colours schemes and features which cater towards contrasting budgets. Of course, Intel is preparing their new series of processors, codenamed Kaby Lake which could provide a good performance boost. Ahead of the official release, Gigabyte has released BIOS updates for their entire LGA1151 range to make them compatible with Kaby Lake processors. This includes the Z170, B150 and H110 chipsets and allows existing owners of Gigabyte LGA1151 motherboards to upgrade rather easily. Here we can see the full list of models receiving the new BIOS:
The ability to upgrade from a Skylake processor to Kaby Lake without changing the motherboard is pretty neat, although I highly doubt the performance difference will be enough to justify this move. Whatever the case, it provides consumers with more options and I’m pleased to see Gigabyte release their BIOS updates in a similar vein to ASRock, MSI and ASUS. Considering the amount of companies now unveiling BIOS updates, it shouldn’t be too long before Kaby Lake is finally revealed.
