Gigabyte Showoff Huge External “WaterForce” GPU Water Cooler

The team over at VR-Zone saw something very interesting this week while taking part in Tech Tour 2014, they stumbled upon the monstrosity you see in the images here, the Gigabyte WaterForce GPU cooler. It’s not clear at this time if this is a final product, demo, prototype or whatever, but I’m going to guess prototype, because it looks an absolute mess right now.

The water cooling system, that is the radiators, fans, pumps and the control panel are all mounted in an external block, this can be seen sat on the top of the chassis in the picture, much like the extra chassis add-ons for the Cooler Master HAF Stacker. The top component features a set of controls to change everything from temperature, fan and pump speeds, giving you absolute control of the setup and how much cooling performance is needed at any one time.

There are three GeForce GTX 780 Ti graphics cards inside the system and while the cable routing looks drastic, keep in mind that there are six flexible water cooling pipes running amongst that lot as well. These pipes run up to the top 5.25″ drive bays, out through the front of the chassis and up to the top control / radiator block. Cable routing inside the chassis shouldn’t matter too much as it’s relying on the flow of water to cool the graphics cards, not air.

I like the idea, but it’s clear that it needs some work, not to mention a more suitable chassis as a little cable routing wouldn’t go a miss just to stop it looking like garbage in there. What do you think about external GPU water cooling, a good idea or a waste of time?
