According to leaked information Gigabyte is planning the inclusion of PCI-E 2.0 1X expansion cards with its X79 motherboards which will have Bluetooth 4.0 and 150mbps wireless capabilities. The expansion card will also have an internal USB port (which has to be connected to the motherboard header using the cable shown in the picture above) although we are unsure what the function of this is supposed to be…how useful is having a USB 2.0 port inside your PC Case? There are two provided antennas which plug into the back of the expansion card and receive and transmit wireless signals.
Although this feature is nice and much better organised than the messy way in which ECS arranged their wireless functionality it still would of been nice to see faster WiFi for those who are used to 300mbps WiFi. The card will ship with the X79-UD5, X79-UD7 and G1.Assassin 2 but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Gigabyte sell this kit separately so all boards can achieve cheap and convenient wireless and bluetooth functionality.
