Over Power Protection and Max Wattage

Given that OPP was a suspected factor in the issues seen with certain Gigabyte PSU models last year, this was clearly a part of our testing that was going to warrant greater than usual attention. In this regard though, the Gigabyte UD1000GM was absolutely faultless.

Achieving a maximum wattage output of 1325, we can confirm that the OPP operated exactly as it should. We did, in fact, run the test 3 times with scores of 1302, 1333, and 1325 just to confirm that the OPP does appear to be 100% solid in the Gigabyte UD1000GM. – Coming in at 25% above its rated value, we would concede that when compared to other PSU models, this is a slightly smaller margin than we usually see. This would, however, indicate that as part of the ‘Ultra Durable’ aspect of the design, Gigabyte may have reigned this figure in a little just to reduce, even further, any potential risk of failure.
