Moving onto the overclocking side of this board, for a mid-range board we had a figure in our head that we were expecting, and so we booted into the classic mode within BIOS and immediately tried the 46 multiplier and found the system to be 100% stable throughout our major tests. The next step was to increase the multiplier to 47 and then to 48.
4.8GHz booted fine and with an auto voltage, the system was reading 1.392V which was under the 1.4V limit that we had set for ourselves. We managed to run through 3DMark 11, Super Pi and Cinebench which gives us a good indication into stability, as generally stability issues would flag up on these tests. We then continued to try the 49x multiplier but were greeted with problems during testing, though booting into Windows was no problem at all, and some of the benchmarks actually completed at this speed too, but we crave 100% stability and therefore had to drop the speed back down to 4.8GHz.
We did try 4.9GHz again and found that with extra voltage and more ample cooling, the CPU did manage to remain stable, but for a 24/7 overclock, we wouldn’t recommend it unless you are using more extreme cooling opposed to air/aio watercoolers.
