Gigabyte’s New G190-H44 1U Barebone Impresses on All Fronts

Gigabyte released a quite impressive new server and it is one where many consumers will go “DO WANT!” when they read the features. But be warned, this is not a device you’ll want to run in your own home. However, if you are a business that needs a lot of high-computing tasks performed, then you might want to take a closer look at the Gigabyte G190-H44 HPC Server.
The Gigabyte G190-H44 is a 1U rack unit that can hold up to four high-end double slot GPUs, which is a first in this form factor. Gigabyte already pioneered the 2U servers with the 8-GPU system and this is basically half of that. It is no surprise that Gigabyte launches this system right now as it is fully compatible with Nvidia’s latest Tesla M60 card and also NVIDIA GRID certified. Both have just been presented by NVIDIA at the VMworld show.
A server like this will require a lot of power and produce a lot of heat, and that is the main reason that you wouldn’t want to run this at home. The Gigabyte G190-H44 HPC Server is equipped with dual 2000W 80 Plus Platinum rated power supplies and it will need both those to run this barebone with its maximum possibilities.
One of the amazing things on the G190-H44 is that it doesn’t come with any restrictions despite its low-profile. You can use the highest TDP models with 145W from the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V3 product family to their full potential and you can add four of the highest performing graphics cards as well. The barebone has been designed for an absolute optimal airflow that effectively cools all components properly.
This has been achieved by a front-to-back airflow and strategic placement of the card slots, the CPU sockets, the power supplies, and the 11 heavy-duty 23,000 RPM fans within the chassis. It will get loud, but it will stay cool. The G190-H44 can operate at peak efficiency without cooling trouble in an environment up to 35 degrees, which is 10 degrees above what is considered the sweet spot for server environments.
You can use both active and passive computing graphics cards in this system, which also is somewhat unusual. Normally it is either one or the other. It does, however, require the active cards to have an airflow direction that is aligned with the systems front to back design.
In spite of its highly dense layout, the G190-H44 has plenty of additional expansion abilities. In addition to its 4 double slot computing card bays, GIGABYTE reserved space for two 2.5-inch hot-swappable bays, two 1.8-inch fixed internal bays, and two full-length low-profile slots for add-on PCIe cards
