Gio Corsi, Former PlayStation Leader, Takes on New Role at Nintendo

Gio Corsi, known for his significant contributions at PlayStation, has recently joined Nintendo. He is set to play a key role in managing Nintendo’s third-party relations, specifically focusing on AAA titles.

Nintendo Aims to Enhance Third-Party Relations

With Corsi’s hiring, Nintendo aims to bolster its third-party game development, an area where the company has historically faced challenges. This move is particularly timely as rumors about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 suggest a release in early 2025. Corsi’s role will involve collaborating with developers to bring their games to what he calls “this legendary platform.”

Expectations for the Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch enjoyed moderate third-party support, but the anticipated Switch 2 is expected to significantly outpace its predecessor in terms of power and capabilities. Rumored to be on par with systems like the PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S, the next-gen console could transform Nintendo’s third-party game offerings.

Corsi’s previous stints include a role at Iron Galaxy Studios as head of commercial and publishing at Illfonic, aside from his extensive experience at PlayStation. There, he was instrumental in localizing and launching titles such as Yakuza and Persona in the West. His expertise is seen as a major asset in preparing Nintendo for a stronger third-party game lineup for the upcoming console.

The addition of Gio Corsi to Nintendo’s team is a strategic move expected to enhance the gaming giant’s third-party collaborations and ensure that upcoming releases like Persona 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Far Cry 7 shine on the new platform.

While the official announcement of the Switch 2 is still pending, Nintendo fans have reasons to be optimistic about the future of third-party games on Nintendo platforms with Corsi at the helm. Further details are expected in Nintendo’s next financial briefing scheduled for May, with more substantial reveals likely during the traditional “E3” season in June.
