Global Chipset Shortage Now Claims Routers!

With the ongoing global chipset shortage, it’s one of the biggest reasons why supply levels of CPUs, GPUs, and pretty much anything technologically based is in such low levels of quantity at the moment. Following a report via TechPowerUp, however, it seems that this issue may be now set to claim another victim. Namely, routers are expected to start getting harder to come by!

Routers Affected by Chipset Shortage!

In the report, inside sources claim that distributers have just doubled the amount of time required for router supplies to be issued. Specifically, the standard 30 weeks ‘waiting period’ has now been doubled to 60 weeks! As such, any brand new orders going in today for a new router design or model could take over a year before they are actually handed over.

So, in other words, while the current market supply is good enough to meet demand, by the Summer, you might start to notice that certain router designs are going to start drying up!

What Do We Think?

As supplies decrease, demand goes up. And when demand goes up, often so do prices. As such, if you are currently in the market for a new router, it might be in your best interest to pick and pick quickly because if this information is indeed proven accurate, then similar to everything else, routers are simply going to start being either hard to get, or significantly more expensive than they are right now!

Admitted though, routers are not a particularly common purchase for general consumers. Most people do, after all, tend to live with whatever their ISP gives them. Who knows though, perhaps this shortage might see them either upping their prices or perhaps applying individual charges.
