The Golden Joystick Winners for 2017 Announced

The winners of the 2017 Golden Joystick Awards have been announced

I think it’s pretty fair to say, 2017 has, largely, been a great year for gaming. With the success of the Switch and some massive AAA title releases, we have been more than a little spoiled.

If you cast your minds back, we have had some great games this year including Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizon: Zero Dawn. For those of us who largely game on PC’s our ‘to-do’ list has grown ever larger.

As one of the industries major award ceremonies, the Golden Joystick has held. The even decides (in brief) which games have been the best this year while also touching on online entertainment and streaming.

So who has won this year’s categories? Let’s find out!

So who is this year’s big winners?

The event, being live-streamed via Twitch can be watched again here, but in brief, here are your winners.

  • Story – Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Visuals – Cuphead
  • Audio – Zelda: BotW
  • Indie Game – Friday the 13th
  • Multiplayer Game – PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. (Read more about mob justice for cheaters here).
  • Studio – Nintendo EPD
  • VR Game – Resident Evil 7
  • eSports Team of the year – Seoul Dynasty
  • eSports Game of the year – Overwatch
  • Best Streamer – Markiplier.
  • Handheld Game – Pokemon Sun and Moon
  • Nintendo Game – Zelda: BotW
  • PC Game – PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds
  • Critics Choice – Zelda: BotW
  • Most Wanted Award – The Last of Us Part 2
  • Still Playing Award – World of Tanks (Check out the awesome laptop here).
  • Life Time Achievement – Sid Meier
  • Ultimate Game of the Year – Zelda: Botw

It, therefore, seems that Zelda is the big winner this year and overall, I don’t have too many complaints with that list. PUBG’s is a major win for PC game of the year and, I must admit, a little surprising. A big scalp for the little guy there.

The only one I have sort of raised an eyebrow at is Friday the 13th. I’ve played it, it’s not great. Best indie game of the year? I don’t think so.

What do you think? You agree with the results or do you think another game deserved a win? – Let us know in the comments!
