There can be no doubt that GTR 2 was and still is one of the best racing games out there and for a while, it looked like we wouldn’t get a sequel to the game. But there is good news for all racing fans as Simbin UK, the newly formed studio that’s working alongside Sector3, has confirmed that its first project will be just that – GTR 3. And it gets even better as it will come to both major consoles as well as the PC.
The news comes via the official forum on Racedepartment.com where the head of Sector3, Christopher Speed, along with his brother Allan who is the head of Simbin UK, presented the new project. While we don’t get a huge amount of information at this point, what we get sounds very promising. GTR 3 will be built with Unreal Engine 4 and the early screenshots seen here also suggest that it will be built with both variable time and weather.
“It will be proper simulation but for the console version the casual user is just as important,” Allan Speed told Racedepartment.com. “At some point, RaceRoom will switch over to the technology we are creating and we’ll just take that a different route, as in simulation with support for both console and PC.”
This is truly great news for all racing fans. We have heard plans for the game as far back as 2011, but with the original Simbin studio closing that year, it looked like it wasn’t going to happen. Now the then Swedish studio got new wind as Simbin UK last year and it looks like they went to work on GTR 3 right away.
Simbin UK plans to have a playable build ready within 6 months, so we might even see some proper demos during this summer’s gaming events. The game itself is planned for a 2018 release, so you’ll have to be a little patient until you can get into the racing seat in this new racing simulation game.
