Eric Schmidt has got to be one of the most powerful (and rich) men in the world of technology being the chairman of the mammoth technology giant Google . When he says something, people take notice, and his latest thoughts concern that of YouTube – the video streaming website owned by Google.
Eric Schmidt held a presentation where he declined to forecast that Internet video would overtake or displace the Television. In fact he said that this had already happened and said that “the future is now” for YouTube. Recently YouTube announced it had passed the 1 billion unique users per month landmark and that in total YouTube users watch 6 billion hours of videos every month. That means every user on YouTube watches an average of six hours of video each per month.
Google’s Eric Schmidt said that he expects more growth and dreams that one day the entire internet population will be checking YouTube every month. When comparing YouTube and TV at the presentation event, Robert Kyncl, YouTube’s global head of content, said the reason YouTube is so successful in relation to the TV is because:
“TV is one-way. YouTube talks back”
What are your thoughts on YouTube’s recent spectacular growth? Has it replaced the TV? Or does it complement the TV? Will we all watch YouTube on our TVs in the not-so-distant Future?
