Google May Bring Back Cheaper Nexus Devices

With Google set to drop their new 2015 Nexus phones in just several hours, we’re getting word now on the expected pricing. According to the latest leaks, Google will be bringing back cheap pricing back to the Nexus lineup. Replacing the Nexus 5, the 5X will come in at $379 while the 6P will succeed the Nexus 6 at $499. Both prices are lower than what the Nexus 6 originally launched for a year ago.

Both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 launched well below the market price for a flagship at the time. The base Nexus 4 sold for $299 while the Nexus 5 only cost $350. Last year, Google ended the trend with the Nexus 6, releasing the phablet at $650. While still cheaper than some other OEM flagships, many Nexus  fans were disappointed that they could no longer get what was essentially near flagship hardware running stock Android for cheap.

While specifications for the 6P have been sparse, we already know quite a bit about the 5X. Overall, the 5X will be a minor upgrade over the 5 with slightly improved CPU and GPU thanks to the 64bit Snapdragon 808 Soc and Adreno 418 GPU. Ram however, stays the same at 2GB and capacities are expected to be 16/32GB again, with the microSD slot still missing. The cameras do get a bump to 12.3/5MP, up from 8/1.3 while the battery improves by about 17% to 2700mAh. Given the increased price, we can expect the 6P to offer a spec bump to a Snapdragon 810 with 3GB of ram. Stay tuned for the official launch in just a few hours!
