Google, once again, seems to be doing something right as early statistics indicate that the new service has managed to attract nearly 20 million users over the past three weeks. As of close today they will have surpassed this mark.
Between July 7 and July 18 the number of Google+ users rose from just 2 million to 18 million, that’s nearly 1.5 million users per day! As of the beginning of this week, Google+ was getting around 750,000 new users a day which while lower is still an impressive rate of growth.
While Google always aims high, in fact they are hoping to get and maintain 1 million new users per day, it will take some time before Google+ can get close to Facebook’s 750 million users.
With the launch of the iPhone app, which went straight to number 1 of the iTunes store top app downloads, the number of users who are able to take advantage of Google+ will increase rapidly. They still have a way to go to get the share that they are looking for, but certainly this will have already rattled Facebook, although lots of users will use both services until all their friends are on both and then we will see which they decide to use.
