“How do you like them apples” should be the quote of the day, now that Google has dethroned the technology giant that is Apple, who are no doubt as stunned as everyone else that Google has now become the most valuable brand in the world. This is no major shock of course, Apple have been loosing their lead for a little while and while they still remain one of the biggest companies in history, Google has been seeing improved revenues, giving them the edge needed to take the top spot.
Apple’s brand value has diminished by 20% to a mere $148 billion, while Googles value gained a whopping 40%, propelling their worth to a whopping $159 billion. Both still crazy big numbers, but that $11 billion difference is hardly a small lead.
While speaking with the Telegraph, Millward Brown’s research company director Peter Walshe said “To gain more of our mind-space brands such as Google are making ambitious plays across existing category boundaries.”
Apple is still running their base products over and over, iDevices and Mac, while Google is broadening its horizons to self driving cars, Glass, their web services, energy production and more, something that is obviously going to give them more opportunities for profit than Apple.
IBM took third place, Microsoft in fourth, the full list of 100 companies can be viewed in the official report here.
