We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on the RAT7 Albino Edition in the past, which was not only superior in build quality over other gaming mice, but also in performance. They deliver some the best gaming peripherals like headsets, keyboards and mice. Today we have a familiar product in, one that has already been mentioned, but this time with a twist. Today we have the Cyborg. MMO7 Gaming Mouse.
We’ve already had the chance to review the RAT7 that earned itself the most prestigious Editors Choice award and today we have the modified version called the MMO7. As we’ve talked about before, having the right mouse is crucial for success when it comes to online gaming, so having the right gear is a gamer’s top priority. We’ve seen a fair few gaming mice aimed at the more competitive FPS and RTS genres, but only a few aimed at the increasingly popular MMORPGs. Cyborg hope to change this by releasing a remake of their award winning RAT7, the MMO7 so lets have a look.

From the design standpoint, I really like the mice.
From a functionality standpoint:
1. The tracking these mice use is incredibly finicky. They only work on select surfaces, many of them NOT high end game pads (even most pads from their own company wont work!).
2. Even when you use it on a surface it tracks on, there is still the issue that if you slightly pick up your mouse the cursor jumps. Now, almost all mice will have tracking issues when you lift them up. Compared to a Logitech G700, the RAT9 is crazy worse.
3. Evey now and then the mouse stops tracking vertical or horizontal movement. Suddenly your mouse only goes up and down or left and right. The guys at Cyborg will tell you that your mouse is dirty – which I can guarantee that isn’t the case. Again, since replacing my RAT9 with a G700, I haven’t had ANY tracking issues. And I cleaned my RAT9 a couple times a day.
4. The battery life in the RAT9 is a few of hours – maybe. Lucky they give you two batteries, but after a day of use it is a pain to swap them all the time. Again, comparing to the Logitech G700 – which is also a wireless mouse – the two perform the same from what I can tell and the G700 will go a full day and change on a charge. Although, the G700 requires you go to with a cable once you need to charge (no easy battery swapping).
If I could put the sensor from my G700 into the RAT9, I’d probably stick with Cyborg.
However, on top of all these issues commonly reported with RAT mice, my personal experience is that he RAT7 right mouse button stopped working after a few months, so I upgraded to the RAT9 as I was told it has a better sensor too. Only to have my thumb mouse button break on the RAT9 4 months after using it.
Fry’s wouldn’t take it back and after many emails with no reply, I could never get Cyborg to replace it either.
